"We take home security very serious here. And we think this driveway alarm is gonna be a huge help for knowing someone is down to our driveway."
I really like that Hosmart is offering a sensor with the Solar charging feature so I don't have to be concerned with manually recharging the batteries. Fortunately, they also retained the "USB charging port" should the weather not provide enough ambient light to activate solar charge feature (extended periods of dense fog, heavy snow, etc.). The battery pack they are using is Li-Ion which has some integrated circuitry that probably is a charge controller function so the batteries receive proper charge & do not over charge. I think of it as a "smart battery pack". Battery pack It is very well packaged in foil/cellophane which should protect it from any condensation, etc.
I have "temporarily located" this sensor in full sunshine area on top of a well-head on an embankment overlooking our driveway. If that location proves to be ideal I will remove the rear mounting plate and use industrial Velcro on bottom to attach it on well-head cap. If not, I might paint the sensor black (after masking off the solar panel, eye and USB plug) and locate it on my black gate post at driveway entrance so it blends in with gate (stealth). The distances I have tested it at are 300' and 700' and it trips the receiver alarm reliably. Tip: If you don't want the red led light to display when triggered you can use channel 3 or 4 which are stealth modes (no light emitted through eye).
I don't normally write reviews but after this morning I had to write one for this driveway alarm. I was woken up at 5:50 this morning by my driveway alarm going off. I almost didn't get up thinking it was a squirrel since they set if off occasionally. Thankfully I woke up, looked out the window and saw the interior light on in my vehicle. Long story short, my vehicles were broken into and the thief had entered my yard from the neighbors yard but exited through my driveway setting off the driveway alarm and waking me up. Thankfully, he was caught shortly after exiting my driveway, but not before making his way a mile down my street and breaking into numerous vehicles. If it wasn't for this driveway alarm, my house wouldn't have been the last one he hit and he probably would have gotten away with it. Needless to say, my neighbors are all asking for the link for this item so they can order one as well.
The driveway motion detector worked really well. The problem with it is that if a neighbor has the same unit you will get each others alarms. I sent Hosmart a message about this issue and they sent me a different model. That corrected the problem as long as another neighbor does not buy the same model as mine. I would think that one could be developed that would use different frequencies. Hosmart was very quick and helpful in helping me solve this issue.
This company is the best , I had trouble with the one I bought and they had their guy call me about it . I had a new one in less then a week . This works so good we had to set the sensitivity down the rain drops coming off dish was setting it off .
Used this product as an automatic door alert. My home has a metal roof and other models were very problematic on wireless signals being received at base station. This unit was easy to install and has the added feature of solar charging. Chime is a pleasant tone and easily recognized among the other tones in the home and is heard throughout the home and can be turned down for conversation. Excellent for use in an RV or Camper where security of the area is required.
1. How does Wireless Driveway Alarm work?
The sensor has a passive infrared lens that activates when it senses both heat and motion. When the sensor is triggered by a person, car, or large animal, a signal is sent to the receiver in your home that will alert you with the sound you choose from the zones. The ideal maximum range between the receiver and sensor is 1/2 mile. The sensor has a maximum 30ft detection distance and the sensitivity is adjustable with low(approx 20ft.) and high(30ft.) mode.
There's no wifi or monthly contracts required. Additionally, the system is weather-resistant and designed to work throughout the seasons. It works the same for day and night. It's perfect to be used to detect who's on your property, when the mailman arrives, and more, especially for rural areas with driveways.
2. How do I know which system works best for me?
All of our driveway alarm kits have 1/2 mile wireless long range for the sensor and receiver. eMACROS driveway alarm features solar and rechargeable sensors. The 4-zone kit has the 4-zone receiver(square and round option) which supports up to 4 sensors and the 7-zone kit also has two color options. The Hosmart driveway alarm has 4-zone kits (two color options) featuring a rechargeable sensor with better price.
3. Are the solar wireless driveway alarm and the rechargeable driveway alarm compatible with each other?
No, the sensor and receiver can only be paired if they're the extras from the same kit.
4. How are the wireless driveway alarms powered?
eMACROS wireless driveway alarms all include solar-powered sensors with solar panels and built-in rechargeable batteries. The receiver runs on 4AA batteries or AC adapter(included), Hosmart wireless driveway alarms include rechargeable sensor without solar panels but with built-in rechargeable batteries. The receiver runs on 4AA batteries or AC adapter(included).
5. False alarm
If you're experiencing many false alarms, it could be due to a few different reasons. Firstly, examine your sensor's mounting position. Be sure your sensor is mounted around 4.5-6 feet off the ground to eliminate false alarms from smaller animals, and not facing direct sunlight. Your sensor is automatically set at the pick up distance of 30ft, so adjusting the distance down to 20ft by the low-mode sensitivity can help eliminate false alarms(see from the manual).
Obstructions such as metal, brick, trees, or inclines in your driveway can cause inference. They reduce the distance the signal travels. If you're not getting the sound from the receiver, the sensor may be too far away from the receiver to get a good signal under the interference condition. Adjust the position of the sensor and receiver to create a more reliable connection. Make sure the sensor is mounted around 4.5-6ft high.
7. What's the difference between the receivers of eMACROS 1/2 Mile 4-Zone Solar Driveway Alarm?
The square one is the classic version. The round one is a new version of design with higher quality. Both of them have the same function. 4 chimes on different zones and support up to 4 sensors each. Both run on the 4 AA batteries and have low-battery alert.
